Syntactic and semantic descriptions of CO-OPS data will be provided, which will aid in the discovery, retrieval and use of the data. Metadata will be provided using XML, XML schemas and XML style sheets and other data formats in accordance with the IOOS recommendations. DMAC has given some guidance as to the standards to follow in creating the metadata, such as the use of the U.S. Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) content standards.
