Frequently Asked Questions
What is OPeNDAP?

OPeNDAP stands for Open-source Project for a Network Data Access Protocol. It is a data transport medium that allows access and subseting of data across the internet.

What are these files extentions DDS DAS Information and HTML?

DODS Extentions -- There are four files associated with each set of data:
   (1) Dataset Descriptor Structure (DDS) This file contains a description of the structure of the data
   (2) Data Attribute Structure (DAS) This file contains information about the data, such as the name of the variable, its unit and its type.
   (3) (Information) This HTML page has detailed information about the data in a more readable format.
   (4) (HTML Data Request Form) This form serves as an interface to describe the data set. It provides variable selection boxes, which allow users to enter constraints on different variables of the dataset, and to build a URL of choice that will display the data set or a sub-sample of it.

How to use the HTML request form to retrieve data?

For each data set, the user must enter valid Station Id, Datum, Begin Date, and End Date in the HTML form request to retrieve the data of interest. To view the station id listing click here.
The four required fields - Station Id, Datum, Begin Date, and End Date - must be surrounded in double quotes.
For Water Level Data, the user can retrieve up to a maximum of one month worth of six minute data. The rest of the data sets can be retrieved up to a maximum of one year except for the high/lows and the daily mean data which have a maximum of five years.

What is the retrieval date for the verified water level data?

A valid retrieval date for the verified data would be going back to the first of the current month, then two months back. For example, if today's date is March 2nd or March 29th, start with March 1st and subtract two months. The most recent date available in the data file would be January 1st.
